Santa Cruz Hillel
Jim is passionate about creating opportunities for students to learn, collaborate, lead and explore their world, and he is also eager to activate an alumni and parents network. Before coming to Santa Cruz Hillel, Jim worked as a business attorney in New York and California. He has also been very involved in pro bono work and recently served as a volunteer attorney for the California Innocence Project. Jim grew up in the New York area and attended University of Maryland as an undergrad. He received his Juris Doctorate from Brooklyn Law School. In 2004, he relocated with his family from New York to Santa Cruz. Jim and his wife have two teenage daughters (oy vey), who are discovering their own Jewish identities. In his free time, Jim enjoys arguing about politics, hanging out with his family, hiking, and running. He is also an avid home cook.
Having lived in San Francisco for the past 11 years, Leah is beyond excited to return home to Santa Cruz County and join the Santa Cruz Hillel community this fall! After founding the Jewish sorority Lambda Chi Mu and interning with SF Hillel she graduated from San Francisco State University with a degree in Child and Adolescent Development. Beyond college she lived in Israel for 9 months volunteering with low-income children at a preschool and tutoring children at an after school program. The true Aptos native can never get enough of the beach and loves taking pictures, watching/ attending baseball games (go Giants!), and making jewelry.
She is thrilled to meet each and every one of you!
Originally from Haifa, Liora loves the north of Israel and its green surrounding, yet her even bigger love of traveling prompted her to move to Be'er Sheva as a student, where she received her MA in Social Psychology. During her stay there she also worked with students who sponsored children from low income families to help their social and emotional development. After 5 years, she decided to move to the big city (Tel Aviv!) where she spent a year working as an occupational psychologist. During her stay in this cool and modern city, she enjoyed going to pilates and yoga classes, and walking along the beach. She can't wait to share her experiences with you and hear your stories too!
Originally from Chicago, Arlyne has made it a point to live in beautiful places, such as Paris, Napa Valley, and now Santa Cruz where she and her husband have raised two sons. Working at Hillel in an administrative capacity has been part of her life since 2006. She works mornings, and welcomes students to come by to say hi!
